I have to admit; I am a comic book geek. More specifically Captain America and the Avengers, they have been capturing my attention since I could read. I am not however a comic paperback aficionado due to the fact that something always seems to be lost in the translation between comic book and paperback. If the reader is not already familiar with the characters and history, the paperbacks usually lack visual of reference and can be confusing. Try to describe Captain America throwing his shield and bouncing it everywhere then back to his hand to someone who has never read a comic book and you will catch my drift. With all this being said I have the advantage of knowing the characters in The Ultimates: Tomorrow Men and I think Michael Friedman did a great job developing the background without over doing it. I don’t recommend jumping into this genre with this specific paperback, but it is an action packed jaunt into the customary chaos of the Marvel universe.
