A coming
of age tale about an interactive haunting- a story of moving on, leaving where
you come from and going somewhere new. Written and directed by Hoku
Uchiyama, an up and coming director who has won over nine film festival
awards worldwide; he believes that fantasy is a vehicle for exposing raw human
emotion- the external expressing the internal, and serves as a “beautiful
coping mechanism” for the everyday ills of life.
This beautiful modern
fairytale weaves together human limits of tolerance, pain, stamina and love
into a delicate, balanced tapestry of the ridiculous and exploitative vs. the
careful and coherent. Enhanced by the sepia color schemes and a live orchestral score that drives the
characters through a timeless voyage.
I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for something off
the beaten path; brilliant and beautiful, The Rose rises to the occasion and
issues out a wonderful viewing experience.
The Rose stars Kathryn Robinson, Phillip Rogers, Blain Miller, Adam Vanderwielen, Tim Cowgill and Pat Grasso.
