With the classic
simplicity of an old school 5-piece rock band and the freshness of modern day
alternative rock, After Midnight Project is really making
a class all their own. I had the immense
pleasure of hearing this group play live at the Temecula International Film and
Music Festival over the weekend and was instantly hooked by their commanding
performance and intense energy. Their music is a blast of fresh air in an
oversaturated market, why they have not been signed yet is certainly a mystery,
as I’m sure their fans are also wondering.
Based out of Los
Angeles, this
band came together in 2004, and produced their first EP, The Becoming, 2006. I
quickly purchased this EP and started listening to it right away. If I was not hooked by their phenomenal live
performance, the recorded versions did me in permanently. This band sounds like they’ve been playing
together for ten years, not three; they blend together perfectly leaving you no
doubt of their talents and sustaining power as a band. Jason, lead vocalist, has the most amazing
range, singing from a low, soft ballad to a hard, high yell without breaking a
sweat, it seems like you’re listening to multiple singers or at the least a
good mixing board, but the proof was in his live performance. As for the music,
the change ups during the course of a song are pure genius and pulled off to
perfection by the superb musical talent of this band; it is not the same old
riff played over and over again, it gives all their songs a life of their own
and certainly makes you want more, as for me, I will be keeping a close eye on
this band and hope to see and hear more of them in the future.
