You can’t keep a good
comic book dead.
In the early 1950’s EC
comics came out with a series of comics that intentionally showcased sex and
extreme violence. An outcry was raised so loud that congress got involved and
the creators decided to quit the comics. HBO later revived the tales for half
hour spots on their premium channels in the late 80’s through the mid 90’s,
with three feature films to boot. Believe it or not two children’s shows came
out as well.
In 2007, Papercutz began to release all new tales under the Tales From The
Crypt banner. The comics are just what you expect. Morally bankrupt
one-dimensional characters that are taught poetic justice in some horrific
manner within a few pages. The Crypt-keeper is back (along with The Old Witch
and The Vault-keeper) spewing his endless amount of
bad puns. Having read the first four I can say that I like the new series; it’s
just plain fun. I also like the fact that something familiar to me (I used to
watch the television series years ago) is brought back with modern references
to things like the internet, cell-phones and the 2008 vice-presidential
candidate Sarah Palin.
Something worth
picking up for the fans: 4.5 out of 5
