A fresh new idea.

Gil Stewart witnesses a strange accident on the highway. He tries to help an old man who was hit by a car. The old man dies, but before he does he gives Gil a message about the Keepers. Gil gets home to find out that he mentally handicapped nephew, of whom he is the parental guardian, is missing. Gil has to go back through memories from when he was nine up to the time something happened that has since messed up his thoughts for life. In the present something is surrounding him. Something is coming to collect him as he tries to desperately remember the key to everything.

Take away the monsters, the scary, and the strange things in this book and you are still left with well written and thought-provoking book. For a little while there I thought there was a Chandleresque, Owen Taylor plot hole in the book but it was resolved and made me do quite a bit of rereading due to my own impatience. Then again, Braunbeck might have intended this. I think being a pet lover goes a long way into how much you’ll like this book or not.

Simply put, buy it and read it in one sitting if you can.
