I must admit I was a little disappointed when I read “Hunting”. It
wasn’t what I expected from a writer known for his horror writing, even having
had an accolade by Stephen king calling him “The Master”.
Actually it was quite boring.
Come on Bentley you can do and have done better than this. It’s like something from a woman’s weekly
magazine – tamer actually, and when I got to the crunch-line at the end, I felt
disappointed and cheated.
It was well written, easy to read but the spark, which I was expecting,
just wasn’t there.
The short story is about a young boy and his father, who works for the
forest service. They go hunting several
times a year and it’s the boy’s greatest pleasure. His mother and father make up a foursome with
another couple and eventually, or should I say surprisingly, his mother and the
male friend get together.
Mr. Little, after reading his other works, is capable of a much stronger
short story than this.
