The LP Arising From Failure comes to us from Seattle punk band Staples In Carpet. When I first heard it something clicked in my head telling me that this is similar to something. About a month later it hit me. Staples In Carpet reminded me of the band Einstürzende Neubauten and their early eighties release Kollaps, not so much in the industrial sense but in the rough grainy sound the music takes. In fact if you’re a fan of the late seventies and early eighties style punk bands this album may bring back some memories.

Unfortunately, the music never really grabbed me. Music should make you want to move, whether it’s dancing or destroying something. And this album didn’t really make me do anything. Also quite a few of the songs sounded the same. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, bands like Dream Theater and Nickelback put out album after album of songs that all sound the same to me and they are wildly popular with some folks. But on a stronger album each song should be like a new experience for the mind.

I will give Staples In Carpet another shot but only one more. There’s a lot out there to listen to and I’m not getting any younger.
