…like a fungus.
A Nobody’s Nothings is a collection of bizarre short stories and
ramblings from the author Denis Sheehan. The stories mix reality with fiction
similar to Henry Miller’s writing or more recently Henry Rollins’ work; focusing
mainly on adventures in drinking and sex which also reminded me of Chuck Bukowski.
To be perfectly
honest, after reading the first few pages I hated this book. But it began to
grow on me and I fell more to the side of liking it by the end. I’m not a big
fan of gross-out humor but the Poop
Skywalker story tickled me quite a bit. The poetry is far from great but is
better than most of the crap that I churn out under the banner of ‘poetry.’
Some of the stories were quite good such as 9
minutes in a flophouse. The book was filled with short rants and Brain
Scribbles which were funny because I agreed with them, but some were tired and
worn out by the end.
All in all, I think I
would actually read this again at some point, which for me is saying a lot. Buy
it, it’s cheap: 4 out of 5
