Do vampires freeze?
A stranger (Ben Foster) comes to Barrow, Alaska right before the annual 30 days of night and
begins to sabotage all forms of communication and escape. Sheriff Eben Oleoson (Josh Hartnett) starts to investigate these crimes while trying to get the
town ready for the impending darkness. In the diner Eben
and his estranged wife, Stella (Melissa George), arrest the stranger only to find that they are
in much more danger from something else. Soon vampires arrive and begin to raze
the town. The survivors try to move around and hide but their numbers are
shrinking as the days go by. Finally, on the eve of the first day of light, the
survivors are trapped and Eben has to do something
drastic to save them.
This was pretty cool. I’m not a big fan of
vampires in modern media but 30 Days of Night brought the vampire back
to its bestial beginnings. The movie overall lacked substance but there was
enough cool happenings to keep me interested along with an ending that was well
worth watching everything that preceded it, including the less than stellar
acting.
Well worth renting: 4.5 out of 5
