Withersin’s Damned Interview with:

Jason Evigan of After Midnight Project

I’m 24 and I sing; I sing in AMP and I’ve been writing songs my whole life.  I was raised in Hollywood and have traveled all over the world... I want to keep traveling and eventually find myself a nice place up in the mountains away from this polluted fake city. I play drums, bass, guitar and sing and I LOVE making music!

In your own words, define Withersin:

From what I’ve seen you guys are super mantastic and badass

If you were a sideshow act, what would you be?

The GIANT; I’m 6’5” so people call me a giant all the time

What is your greatest non-literary influence?
My Mother and my Father

Describe your most irrational fear:

I’m not really afraid of anything except losing people I love. The Ring scared the shit out of me though.

How about your most guilty pleasure?

Sexually or non-sexually?  I’m a pretty open guy; I don’t really hide much so I don’t feel guilty about much.

Name the most disturbing nursery rhyme/fairy tale you can recall:

London Bridges Falling Down, Falling Down, Falling Down... They are talking about everyone burning up and dying... am I correct?

Do you eat meat?

Yes, but I hate it. Every time I eat meat I feel bad. It’s hard to break away from what you’ve been fed your whole life, however once a month I do try to go veggie.

What were the skies like when you were young?

Red with elephants flying around. Sometimes I would be lucky enough to grab one of their legs, pull them down to Earth and keep them as pets, but every time I would grab their legs they would stretch out.  So now all my pet elephants have stretched out long legs.

Name your favorite garden tool:

Shovel

Name your least favorite color, first job and worst job:

I truly love every color

First job: waiting tables

Worst job: I can make good out of any situation so I’ve never really had a bad job

Favorite: Author, Movie, Music Group, Song, and Quote
THIS MONTH: Chuck Polluck, Once, Muse, Butterflies in Hurricanes

If you were a loaf of bread what kind would you be?

Jalapeno Beer Bread

Weirdest news you have read in your local newspaper:

Dude who chopped up his son for playing video games

Why rock music?

WHY NOT?

Catching both of your performances at the Temecula Film/Music Fest; you were more enthusiastic to play fully plugged than acoustically, why?

I love playing acoustically, but I feed off my surroundings.  If I’m playing in a room with fluorescent lights and a bunch of suits eating chicken taquitos, I’m not going to be as in to it.  When I’m on stage with thumping rock music and kids are singing along, I loose myself.

What was your most unusual lyrical/musical influence?

I sat inside of a laundry mat in a shitty neighborhood and got super influenced by my surroundings.

Have you ever had an embarrassing moment while performing?

Like I said, it’s hard to be embarrassed. I’ve been embarrassed for people in the crowd; for things they have said and done.

What are you currently listening to?

My squeaking chair and the whistle from the hard drive in my computer. Earlier I was listening to the “Once” soundtrack.

Do you have any pre-stage superstitions and/or rituals?

I have two pairs of underwear I always wear onstage.  One is neon green and one is neon orange; I try to wear these as often as possible, sometimes they smell though so I’m stuck commando.

Which AMP song do you most like to perform live?

Right now I would say, “More to Live For” or “Backlit Medley”

What is your favorite vegetable?

Lettuce

Have you had any formal musical and/or vocal training?

Yes, I have had a few vocal lessons just to make sure I wasn’t singing wrong.  I thought I was singing wrong and I took guitar and drums for a few years each.

Growing up in a “Hollywood” home, did you ever want to follow in your Dad’s footsteps? What made you choose music?

Nope! Not at all. My Dad is a great musician; he and I always played together growing up.  He is also an amazing songwriter and pianist and has an album coming out. Music talks to me and makes me feel good.

If you could do a cover of any song from the ‘80’s era, what would it be?

“Take on Me”; although everyone and their mother has covered that song.  I LOVE IT!!!
